Himenoen is a historic tea manufacturer in Oita with over 100 years of experience since 1907 (Meiji 40). I am glad I did not miss the chance to try their products when travelling to Kyushu last time. It is gorgeous to know Japan is not only famous for green tea only, but also Japanese-style black tea.
The one I bought is Oita black tea. Unlike Darjeeling and Assam tea, the flavour is not that strong. It is soft without the strong bitter taste, and the sweet aftertaste is relaxing. The aftertaste is similar to Oolong tea but does not overlap with the black tea flavour. Imagining to pair with desserts is so amazing!
Besides black tea, Himenoen also sells other types of tea and bean snacks. You may also walk into their cafe if you have time! I believe they will not let you down and worth to give it a try!
